Physical Education Vision
PE is a unique subject which allows your child to shine and succeed in many different ways. We believe that physical education should be enjoyed by every child in a safe and supportive environment within which competition can thrive. Developing confidence, teamwork and resilience, PE gives all children the opportunity to experience a variety of physical activity. In and out of lesson, we make time for children to develop their skills, enjoy exercise and achieve.
How we do PE and HPS
Children develop confidence by improving their core skills, enabling them to excel in movement, balance, gymnastics and athletics. In Year 3 and 4, pupils also take part in swimming, building an essential life skill that supports both safety and overall physical competence. Throughout PE lessons, children are taught the skill sets needed to take part independently and responsibly. As they move up through the school, they build on these foundations and begin to apply their skills in a range of game situations. Across every year group, pupils learn to work collaboratively as part of a team while also developing strong individual abilities—skills that will support them throughout their lives.
How we deliver the curriculum
A bespoke progression of skills provides clear building blocks that support the development of key attributes across all year groups and key stages. This progression is both sport-specific and skill-based, enabling children to apply what they have learned in a wide range of activities and settings. In KS2, the focus shifts more strongly to team games, where pupils select and apply their skills while developing an understanding of tactics and teamwork. To ensure high-quality teaching, there is a strong emphasis on CPD, allowing staff to continually develop their subject knowledge and confidently deliver effective PE lessons. Our provision supports consistent progression across the school, ensuring every child receives a high-quality and enriching PE experience.
